VC Northwest University pledges more support to sports directorate

The vice chancellor of Northwest University Kano. Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa has reiterated the management commitment towards the overall development of various sporting activities in the university.

Professor Muktar Atiku stated this at the recent concluded University staff Games 2025 held at the institution premises.

The vice chancellor who was represented by the deputy vice chancellor Administration. Professor Abubakar Salisu Garba explained the university authority is committed to support the sports directorate morally and financially with a view to ensure the university excel at state and national engagements.

He revealed that the management recently approved fund to enable the university athletes compete in the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association NUGA preliminaries competition scheduled to hold at Aliko Dangote university of science and technology Wudil among others.

While congratulating the various winners of football 5-aside, chess. Table tennis, 100 metres athletics and eggs spoons race, he charged the losers to redouble efforts in future championship.

The vice chancellor however, called on the sports directorate to recruit hidden talented players ahead of the upcoming Nigerian Universities Staff Games (NUSSA) which is expected to hold later in the year.

In his remarks, the university’s Director of sports. Surajo Ahmad thanked the management, staff and students for their cooperation and support towards the success of the games.

Surajo Ahmad then pledged that the directorate will continue to do it’s best towards promoting and development of various sporting events in the university.

The director expressed satisfaction with the good conduct exhibits by the participants, urging them to keep it up.

In the final of football 5-aside, VC office football team came back from two goal deficit to beat highly rate, Health science directorate 5-4 in a penalty shootout after forcing them to a 2-2 draw.

Highlights of the event include presentation of medals, certicates, trophies to the deserving individual players and team by the vice chancellor represented by deputy vice chancellor Administration, Professor Abubakar Salisu Garba at the occasion.
