PROPCOM+, an eight-year FCDO-funded climate-smart rural agricultural program, has partnered with Halilco Foods to launch an instant Koko production line in Kano.
This initiative aims to increase the incomes and climate resilience of 3.79 million poor and vulnerable people in Nigeria, particularly women.
The partnership focuses on supporting women farmers in climate resilience by providing improved seeds, technical support, and enhancing agricultural value chains.
Speaking at the event, the Team Lead PROPCOM+, Mr. Adiye Ode, represented by the Chief Operating Officer of PROPCOM+, Mr. Kemakolam Egere, stated that the partnership aims to expand Halilco Foods’ production line by supporting women farmers in climate resilience.“The partnership between Halilco and propcom+ started in 2024 under Programme’s Climate Smart Agriculture Catalysing Grant Facility (CSA CGF) which aims to deliver an integrated approach to addressing the Interlinked challenges of food security in Nigeria and accelerating climate change” he said
He highlighted that under the CSA CGF funding, Halilco Foods was supported to increase agricultural productivity and improve food quality to enhance nutrition outcomes and boost incomes for women farmers, extension workers, and other stakeholders.
Egere noted that the partnership has yielded positive results as over 500 women farmers were brought on board.
He reiterated PROPCOM+’s commitment to training and retraining farmers, as well as providing technical support to achieve the desired objectives.
“I expect that more female farmers and extension workers will be engaged as soon as possible,” he added.
The Managing Director of Halilco Foods, Abbas Fadlallah, emphasized that the expansion of the production line was fully supported and funded by PROPCOM+.
He stressed that the partnership focuses on working and supporting female farmers through the provision of improved seeds and technical support to improve agricultural value chain.
Fadlallah noted that over 500 women farmers in Kano and Jigawa states benefited from the initiative, experiencing notable improvements in their profit margins and health.
“We are targeting 1,500 women this year, and the number will continue to increase,” he stated.
Commissioning the instant Koko production line, the Kano State Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, represented by Dr. Yahuza Shehu Aliyu, emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting interventions that boost the economy.
He said the state government, under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is dedicated to empowering women farmers and contributing to initiatives that promote global progress.
