The Kano State Government has commended UNICEF and FCDO for the general renovation of Wangara Primary School and a Health Facility in Gezawa Local Government Area at a cost of over N200 million.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda made the commendation today Tuesday during the handover ceremony of Wangara Primary School renovated by UNICEF and FCDO under climate – resilient upgrade project.
Dr. Makoda who applauded the development partners for the intervention, noted that the move is in line with present administration effort in revamping the state education sector.
Makoda noted that some of the interventions work done by the two partners at the school included the renovation of five blocks of classrooms, construction of two new toilet blocks, and installation of a solar-powered borehole with overhead tanks.
The renovation also features climate-resilient infrastructure, including elevated floor levels, terrazzo flooring, and strategic tree planting to the beneficiary school.vated floor levels, terrazzo flooring, and strategic tree planting to the beneficiary school.
He therefore assured maximum protection of the facilities and called on stakeholders to join hands in safeguarding the project.
According to the Commissioner, the state Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed all 44 local government chairmen to recruit 400 security guards each to strengthen school safety across the state.
” I want to use this medium to inform you that His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has already directed for the recruitment of 400 security personnel each across the 44 LGAs to provide full protection of our school and ensure conducive learning environment ” he said.
The UNICEF Country Director Mrs. Wafaa Saeed emphasized the importance of providing safe spaces for children to learn, grow, and thrive, highlighting the project’s impact on climate-resilient services.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board Malam Yusuf Kabir appreciated the contributions of development partners, including UNICEF, FCDO, PLANE, and Save the Children, in improving education in Kano State.
Also speaking, the Council Chairman Gezawa local government area Hon. Bala Mukaddas expressed gratitude to UNICEF and SUBEB for their dedication to improving education in Gezawa.
It is part of the Climate-Resilient Infrastructure for Better Learning (CRIBS) initiative, aimed at ensuring children can continue learning despite climate-related disruptions.
