The newly posted Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, Mr Muhammad Hassan-Agalama, has assumed duty.
He pledged to strengthen intelligence gathering, community engagement, and inter-agency collaboration to enhance security in the state.
Hassan-Agalama made the pledge on Friday in Kano during a press briefing after officially taking over the leadership of the command as its 14th Commandant.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hassan-Agalama took over from Mr Bala Bawa-Bodinga, who has been redeployed to the NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja.
Until his deployment to Kano, Hassan-Agalama was the NSCDC Commandant in Borno.
He promised to uphold professionalism, integrity, and effective service delivery in line with the mandate of the NSCDC to protect lives, safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure, and ensure peace and security within the state.
He expressed appreciation to the Commandant-General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar-Audi, for the confidence reposed in him to lead the state command.
The Commandant outlined his operational priorities to include strengthening intelligence gathering, enhancing agency collaboration for proactive security management.
“Enhance community engagement and public trust through partnership and timely response to distress calls.
“Equally, maintaining peace and order during political, social, and economic activities within the state through professional and nonpartisan conduct” he said.
He also vowed to intensify the fight against vandalism, illegal mining, and other criminal activities threatening national assets and economic stability.
“Security is a collective responsibility. I call on the media, traditional rulers, community leaders and the general public to support the corps with credible information. Together, we can create a safer environment for all residents of Kano State,” he added.
The new commandant commended his predecessor for his leadership and achievements, assuring that he would build on the existing successes while introducing new strategies to address emerging security challenges.
“My doors remain open for constructive engagement as we jointly work to sustain peace, security, and development in our dear state.
“I assure the people of Kano that I will do my best to ensure safety and protect lives and property across the state,” Hassan-Agalama said.
