The Kano State Government has disbursed a total of N25 million to the families of four security personnel and a vigilante who lost their lives in the line of duty in Shanono Local Government Area of the state.
The cheques, valued at N5 million each, were presented to the beneficiaries on Thursday at the Headquarters of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Bukavu Barracks, Kano.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by the Director-General, Special Services, Kano Government House, Maj.-Gen. Sani Mohammed (Rtd.), said the gesture was in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by the fallen personnel in defence of lives and property.
The beneficiaries included the families of three Nigerian Army personnel, one Nigerian Air Force personnel and a vigilante who were killed during security operations between November 2025 and January 2026.
Yusuf said the state government would never forget the sacrifices of the fallen heroes, whom he described as patriots and super heroes who paid the ultimate price in the service of the nation.
According to him, no amount of compensation can adequately repay their sacrifices, but the support was meant to cushion the hardship faced by the bereaved families.
The governor assured that the state government would continue to prioritise the welfare of security personnel and the families of those who died in active service, while strengthening collaboration with security agencies to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
In his welcome address, the Commander, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Tukur, commended the Kano State Government for the timely intervention, describing it as a morale booster for troops and security operatives.
Tukur said the support demonstrated the government’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their families.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Lance-Corporal Yusuf Jibril expressed appreciation to the state government and all stakeholders involved in the compensation arrangement.
He assured that the funds would be judiciously utilised for the welfare and wellbeing of the bereaved families.
