Hazy weather: FRSC urges motorists to drive with caution

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has urged motorists and general public to exercise caution following a weather advisory issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) over prevailing hazy atmospheric conditions.

The Kano Sector Commander, Idris Mohammed-Lawal disclosed this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the corps, Abdullahi Labaran on Tuesday in Kano.

“Hazy weather is marked by reduce visibility in parts of the country and it poses serious risks to road users and could increase likelihood of road traffic crashes if adequate safety measures are not observed.

“Maximum exercise caution is required while driving on  road to safeguard lives and property.

“Drivers should also minimise unnecessary travels during periods of extremely poor visibility.,” he stated.

Mohammed-Lawal also warned against dangerous overtaking and stressed the need for motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on any journey.

The sector commander urged motorists to drive at safe and controlled speeds, maintain adequate following distances, and use headlamps appropriately, especially in conditions of low visibility.

“Road safety remains a shared responsibility, all road users must remain alert, disciplined and law-abiding to prevent avoidable crashes during this period.”(NAN)”
