The Deputy Governor of Kano State Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo has resigned from office amid rising political tensions in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Kwankwasiyya Movement and signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed.
The movement said the decision to resign, though difficult, was taken in the overall interest of the people and to ensure stability in the state’s governance.
According to the statement, recent developments had significantly limited the deputy governor’s ability to fully discharge the responsibilities of his office.
It noted that the situation made it necessary for the office to function without constraints in the public interest.
The movement, however, clarified that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations levelled against the deputy governor by the Kano State House of Assembly.
It stated that the former deputy governor maintains his innocence and insists that his record in office reflects integrity and dedication to public service.
The group described the resignation as an act of statesmanship aimed at promoting peace, political maturity, and preventing tensions that could disrupt governance and development in the state.
It added that following his resignation, the former deputy governor would focus more on political activities within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly in strengthening its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The movement also called on its supporters and residents of Kano State to remain calm, law-abiding and committed to democratic principles.
