A 46-year-old man, Olaniyi Fakeye, on Tuesday appeared before a Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan for allegedly stabbing his ex-wife on the shoulder.
Fakeye, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of peace and assault preferred against him by the police.
The President of the court, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akintayo held that each surety must provide a valid means of identification.
She thereafter adjourned the case until June 11 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on March 25 at about 9:30 p.m. at the University College Hospital (UCH) staff quarters, Ibadan.
Ayeni alleged that the defendant attacked his ex-wife, Bosede, and stabbed her on the shoulder with a broken bottle, causing her serious bodily injury.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 249 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
