The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has urged retired police officers in the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and serve as bridge builders in their communities.
Azare gave the charge on Tuesday while receiving members of the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON) who paid him a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters in Uyo.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John.
The statement said the delegation was led by the Chairperson of NARPON in Akwa Ibom, ASP Chief Anselem Eyo (Rtd).
It quoted Eyo as thanking the Commissioner for receiving and hosting them, while pledging their readiness to support the Command in its activities.
“Chief Eyo solicited the support and cooperation of the Command in matters affecting retired police officers in the state,” the statement added.
In his response, Azare reminded the retirees that they were still bound by their professional code of conduct and should continue to uphold the law.
He assured them that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, was working tirelessly to address issues relating to the contributory pension scheme to achieve meaningful outcomes.
The CP further urged them to cooperate with security authorities to ensure crime reduction and to support efforts to rid communities of criminals.
He assured the association of his continuous support and promised to give their activities the needed visibility and publicity.
