The Kano Branch of the Amalgamated Traders/Artisans Welfare Development Association (AMATA) has elected new executives to pilot its affairs.
The election, which was the association’s 11th, held on Wednesday at the Press Centre, Farm Centre, Kano.
Dr Munzali Dayyabu-Taura, Chairman of the Election Committee, said 240 delegates, representing the 80 zones of the association, participated in the exercise.
He said the election was conducted in line with AMATA’s constitution and guidelines, stressing that the process was fair, peaceful and credible.
“A comprehensive election guidelines and affirmation documents was compiled to direct all procedures, including nomination, delegate accreditation and voting” Dayyabu-Taura said
Abdulaziz Dalha Musa-Dala emerged as Chairman, while Hon. Abba Muhammad Bello was elected Deputy Chairman.
Other elected officers include Alhaji Rabiu Muhammad Almustapha Kura as Secretary General, Alhaji Baba Karami Abdullahi K/Ruwa as Assistant Chairman (Hausawa), Alhaji Abdulhakim Maigari as Assistant Chairman (Yoruba) and Mr Stepen Chinedu Okorie as Assistant Chairman (Igbo).
Sixty-six additional executives were also elected, affirmed and sworn in.
In his acceptance speech, Musa-Dala pledged to foster unity among traders and artisans, and ensure safety across markets in the 44 local government areas of the state.
He assured that his team would work to promote cooperation, transparency and empowerment of traders and artisans in Kano.
The election was witnessed by government representatives, security agencies and the media.
