The Bauchi State Government has distributed choppers, crushers and motorcycles to livestock clusters and extension workers to enhance productivity and modernise the sector.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed said the initiative was aimed at repositioning the livestock sector into a modern, productive and economically viable industry.
Mohammed made the remark during the distribution of 100 choppers, 100 crushers and 20 motorcycles to three major value chain clusters, 30 sub-clusters and 20 livestock extension workers across the 20 local government areas of the state.
Represented by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr Bala Musa Lukshi, the governor said the gesture underscored his administration’s commitment to strengthening food security, creating jobs and improving livelihoods in rural communities.
He said the distribution of the equipment was not merely about handing over machines to communities but part of a broader strategy to transform the livestock sector.
According to him, the intervention will help improve the processing of animal feed, reduce post-harvest losses of crop residues and enhance productivity among livestock farmers.
The governor commended the state L-PRES project team for their efforts in empowering rural communities through the initiative.
In his remarks, the overseeing Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock Development, Alhaji Yakubu Aliyu Dahuwa, reiterated the state government’s continued support for the livestock sector and the L-PRES Project.
Earlier, the State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), Dr Musa Adamu One, described the distribution as a major milestone in efforts to revitalise and reposition the livestock sector in the state and across the country.
He said the intervention would strengthen the quality of animal feed, reduce post-harvest losses and improve extension service delivery at the grassroots level.
In a vote of thanks, the Emir of Dass, Usman Bilyaminu Othman III, commended the Bauchi State Government, the World Bank and the national coordination office of the L-PRES Project for supporting the initiative.
Represented by the Chief of Bashalanf, the emir described the support to livestock clusters and extension workers as unprecedented and beneficial to rural communities.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of choppers, crushers and motorcycles to beneficiaries, alongside goodwill messages from representatives of the three value chain clusters and other stakeholders.
