The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to excellence in humanitarian service delivery, pledging to continue improving efficiency, compassion, and teamwork in disaster management across the country.

Dr. Nura Abdullahi, Head of Operations, NEMA Kano Operations Office, gave the assurance during the 2025 Customer Week celebration organised by the SERVICOM Unit of the agency in Kano.

He said the event, themed “Mission Possible” serves as a reminder that no goal is beyond reach when driven by determination, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose.

“In the humanitarian sector, we face daunting challenges  from floods and windstorms to droughts and human-induced crises yet, with courage, coordination, and compassion, every challenge can be transformed into an opportunity to serve humanity better,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that SERVICOM plays a vital role in ensuring that NEMA’s operations meet the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and responsiveness.

“Every Nigerian has a right to be treated with dignity, fairness, and empathy — values that must remain at the heart of every humanitarian operation we undertake,” he added.

Abdullahi commended NEMA staff and partners, including SEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross, and the NSCDC, for their collaboration in ensuring timely and effective disaster response.

As part of the celebration, the agency  on Friday featured a practical drill exercise, cultural display, and staff recognition activities to further promote teamwork and operational excellence.

The drill, supervised by operational officers, tested staff preparedness and communication during simulated emergency scenarios, aimed at reinforcing readiness and adherence to the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures.

The event also featured a colourful cultural attire exhibition showcasing Nigeria’s rich diversity.

Highlight of the day was the presentation of the “Best Staff Award” to Mr. Ridwan Sumaila, of the Finance and Accounting Department for his outstanding dedication and exemplary service.

Abdullahi commended staff for their active participation throughout the celebration, reaffirming NEMA’s resolve to uphold service excellence and strengthen partnerships that make humanitarian missions possible across Nigeria.
