The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has intensified enforcement of traffic light compliance through a special mobile court sitting.
This followed an executive order by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, mandating strict adherence to traffic regulations and prosecution of traffic light violators across the state.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Muhammed Bature, said in a statement on Tuesday that the mobile court was convened along Maiduguri–Kano Road, State Road and Sharada Road.
He said the exercise, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Gwadabe, supported by two registrars, recorded 58 arrests for light signal violation.
According to him, 50 offenders were arraigned, 40 convicted, while 10 were discharged.
Bature disclosed that two vehicles, 25 FRSC personnel and 10 police officers were deployed for the operation.
The commander reiterated the commitment of the corps to ensuring compliance with the governor’s directive, stressing that traffic light obedience was critical to road safety and urban discipline.
He added that the corps would sustain the tempo through continuous enforcement, public enlightenment and collaboration with sister security agencies.
The command urged motorists in the state to obey traffic light signals and other road regulations to avoid prosecution and penalties, and above all, to safeguard lives and property.
