A former Commissioner for Water Resources in Kano State, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, has been elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Doguwa emerged at the party’s State Congress held on Wednesday at the Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall, Kano.
He was elected alongside other members of the state executive committee.
The exercise, conducted by officials from the APC National Headquarters in Abuja, saw the 2,420 delegates drawn from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state affirm Doguwa and other executives through a voice vote.
Other officials elected include Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo as Deputy Chairman; Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Bichi as Secretary; and Fatima Dala as Woman Leader.
Also elected were Nura Yaro as Assistant Secretary; Abdul Adamu (SAN) as Legal Adviser; Farouq Abdullahi Garo as Financial Secretary; Salisu Yahaya as Youth Leader; and Abubakar Salisu as Auditor.
The congress was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Amb. Abdu Zango.
The newly elected executives were sworn in shortly after the exercise in the presence of party stakeholders, including Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin.
In his acceptance speech, Doguwa pledged to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the party and ensure its victory in the 2027 general elections.
The immediate past Chairman of the party, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, in his farewell remarks, expressed gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to serve and thanked party stakeholders for their support during his tenure.
“I thank Allah for giving me the rare opportunity to lead our great party in the state to greater heights for ten years. I also thank our former governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for the opportunity and the support that enabled us to lead the APC successfully,” Abbas said.
In his remarks, Gov. Yusuf congratulated the new executives and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by consolidating the party’s gains and ensuring victory in future elections in the state.
