LG Election: Group petitions Kano CJ, Others

A Community Development Group, under the umbrella of Kumbotso Local Government Youth Awareness (KLGYA), has petitioned Kano Chief Judge and others, over the alleged subtitution of Ali Musa-DanMaliki with Abdullahi Ghali,as Chairman of Kumbosto Local Government, Kano.

Those petitioned included Kano Chief Judge alongside the State Director of DSS, EFCC, IGP, AIG Zone, NSCDC Commandant General and the Commissioner of Police in Kano.

In the petition jointly signed by the group’s Secretary, Adamu Garba-Bechi, and his Chairman, Sanusi Saleh-Haske, they claimed that the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) illegally substituted Danmaliki with Ghali without any justifiable reason.

“Dan Maliki of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) had earlier filed an action against the NNPP, Abdullahi Ghali and KANSIEC challenging the decision of NNPP to replace him after winning the party’s primary election.

“Dan Maliki had already obtained a court judgment against the NNPP, Abdullahi Ghali and KANSIEC before the conduct of the Local Government election on Oct.26, 2024”.

According to the petition, irrespective of the court judgment KANSIEC, refused to comply with the order of the State High Court and went ahead to conduct the election.

“The Kano State government sworn-in Abdullahi Ghali into office as Chairman of Kumbosto Local Government without considering the court order to maintain status quo,” it stated.

The group urged all authorities concerned to revisit the case of Kumbotso and ensure that justice was done for democracy to survive in the state.
