A lifeless newborn baby was discovered in a refuse dump at Kobi Street, near Wunti Gate, Bauchi metropolis.
Residents found the baby wrapped in black plastic bags on Thursday morning.
Confirming the incident, the community leader of Wunti North, Musa Jibrin, stated that the baby was likely born a day before being abandoned at the site.
“I was called early this morning that a lifeless body of a baby girl was dumped behind Alhaji Babangida Mai Coca-Cola’s shop where refuse is being dumped. When we got to the place, I discovered the baby tied inside two black leather bags.
“I then quickly reported the matter to my Mai Gunduma, who is the hamlet head, and he directed me to report to the Police at Township Station, which I did,” Jibrin told journalists.
The Bauchi State Police Command has since dispatched officers to the scene to retrieve the body and has commenced an investigation into the incident.
