Alhaji Sule Lamido, the former Governor of Jigawa State, has called for the dissolution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ibadan Convention that produced former Minister Kabiru Turaki (SAN) as factional Chairman of the party.
Lamido made the call on Thursday in Kano, while addressing hundreds of his political supporters, including former local government chairmen, commissioners and other political appointees, who served under his administration in Jigawa.
He urged the party to immediately dissolve the Ibadan Elective Convention and constitute a caretaker committee to guide the PDP ahead of its next primaries.
Lamido expressed concern over what he termed attempts to sideline founding members of the PDP, alleging that “outsiders have captured the party, pushing aside its original owners.”
He explained that his recent legal actions were aimed at protecting the legacy of the PDP and defending his fundamental rights.
Lamido maintained that the tenures of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, remain valid until Dec. 8, 2025, warning that allowing a leadership vacuum would endanger serving officials and aspirants preparing for future elections.
“I am pushing for a caretaker committee and asking Wike, Damagun and others to forgive one another so that a proper structure can be put in place,” he said.
He appealed to the PDP leadership to convene a joint meeting to address the issues affecting the party and restore stability.
Lamido also urged his followers to remain calm pending developments expected by Dec. 8.
“If we truly value our followers, we know your worth, then we will find a way out. If we fail, then we find another way too. Bala, Fintiri and Makinde have nothing to lose. If things persist, then we find our way,” Lamido noted
Earlier, Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim, the PDP Chairman Jigawa State, presented a said the forum communique of the former council Chairmen to Lamido.
He said the forum met on Nov.18 and resolved to visit Lamido in solidarity, adding that the forum is worried over the PDP at national level due to prevailing factions and consistent rancour and mistrust among its members.
“We are here for you to decide on the next line of action a viable political platform that would enable us to pursue our aspirations for the development of our state Jigawa and Nigeria at large” Ibrahim said
