Police arrest suspected cultist for vandalising public electricity installations in Akwa Ibom

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has arrested a suspected cultist for allegedly vandalising electricity installations in Abak Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, on Monday in Uyo.

John said the suspect, identified as Pius Pius, 40, was arrested on July 20 at about 6:55 p.m. at No. 80 School Road by Oku Abak following actionable intelligence.

She said the suspect confessed to being a member of the Iceland Confraternity, a group reportedly involved in the destruction of critical public infrastructure in the area.

“During a search of his residence, the operatives recovered a human skull, one transformer step down insulator, one circuit breaker, one electric meter and some fuses,” she said.

John said the suspect specialised in vandalising feeder transformers and public electric cables within Abak and its environs.

She said investigation into the matter was ongoing and the command would ensure that anyone involved in the crime was brought to justice.
