The Police Command in Kano State has impounded 104 commercial motorcycles and 68 tricycles for violating the ban on passenger conveyance and the restriction on tricycle operations between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the state.
The command’s Spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano.
He said the enforcement exercise, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, took place between Jan. 1 and Jan. 7, 2026, across the Kano metropolis.
According to him, a total of 172 suspects were arrested in connection with the violations and have been charged to court for prosecution.
Kiyawa said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the cooperation and understanding of residents, as well as the efforts of the combined security agencies, including the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), in enforcing the directives.
He reiterated that the ban on commercial passenger conveyance by motorcycles (Achaba/Okada) and the restriction on tricycle operations from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. remained in force.
The police spokesman listed the affected local government areas to include Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido area) and Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa, Gurjiya and Jido wards).
Kiyawa urged members of the public to comply with the regulations and report any violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order in the state.
