The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, on Thursday commended the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda and contractors handling key infrastructure projects in Abuja for the quality and pace of work recorded across several sites.
Wike gave the commendation while inspecting ongoing projects across the Federal Capital City, expressing satisfaction with the level of supervision and progress recorded.
“I’m very much impressed with what is on the ground. I’m also impressed with the FCDA and the way they have supervised the job to this level. We are very, very happy,” the minister said.
During the inspection, Wike visited the Court of Appeal Dakibiyu Division in Abuja, where contractors assured that the project would be ready for handover by May.
He also inspected the newly built judges’ quarters, which include 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 duplexes for the FCT High Court and another 10 duplexes for the Court of Appeal.
According to him, the projects will be among those scheduled for inauguration to mark the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office.
“We inspected the Federal High Court section which has been furnished. You remember the Federal High Court has 10 duplexes, the FCT High Court has 20 duplexes, and the Court of Appeal also has 10 duplexes.
All these projects will be inaugurated during Mr President’s third year anniversary,” Wike said.
The minister also inspected the CN2 road project in Katampe, describing it as a strategic ring road that will improve traffic flow within the city.
He praised the construction firm handling the project, China Geo-Engineering Corporation, for keeping to its commitments.
“CGC is one of those companies that when they give you their word, you can go to the bank with it. I’m so impressed with the level of work they are doing,” he said.
At the OSEX main carriageway leading to the Wassa–Apo section, Wike said contractors had assured that only about four kilometres of asphalt work remained before completion.
He added that the bridge and road infrastructure would also form part of the projects to be commissioned by the President.
Responding to questions on what motivates him to maintain an intense inspection schedule, the minister said his drive comes from a sense of service and the confidence reposed in him by the President.
“For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment, you have no choice but to be committed to the job. When your appointor has given you all the necessary support, why would you not be motivated?” he said.
On plans to open up new districts, including Waru, the minister said the administration would work with the FCDA to determine whether the projects are captured in the 2026 budget.
“We will do everything we can to open up the districts so that people can move in,” he added.
Wike also briefly commented on the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that unity remains the priority ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
“The first thing now is to make sure the party is united and prepared for the convention. After the convention, we will talk about the next step,” he said.
