Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment towards enhancing the quality and impact of Islamic Education through training and retraining of teaching staff.
The State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna gave the assurance today Saturday while declaring opened a 2-day capacity building workshop organized for Qur’an, Islamic Studies and Arabic Language teachers of Secondary Schools.
Dr. Makoda explained that as the present administration is prioritizing the provision of quality education, it would continue to initiate and implement more programmes that are targeted towards enhancing Islamic Education.
The Commissioner represented by the Executive Secretary Science and Technical Schools Board Associate Prof. Dahiru Muhammad Saleh said the 2-day training workshop was designed to equip teachers of Arabic Secondary Schools with updated pedagogical skills, innovative teaching strategies, and a deeper understanding of modern classroom dynamics.
” You are all aware of the effort being made by this administration in promoting islamic education through training of staff and provision of learning materials to deliver the qualitative knowledge our children deserved ” Makoda said
He added that the ministry had organized Inter-schools Arabic language debate (Mukabala) competitions in Government Arabic Schools at different LGEAs to encourage and promote skills in Arabic language.
” The ministry also facilitated the conduct of Musabaqa in some Islamiyya JSS schools to groom learners and prepare them for future National and International Qur’anic competitions.
” Not only that, recently the government had collaborated with Al-Azhar University of Egypt and sponsored 50 students to study Shari’a law at the University and paid for the 2024 and 2025 NBAIS Examination fees for Arabic school students ” the commissioner announced.
Makoda therefore urged the participants to actively participate by asking questions and taking full advantage of the sessions ahead.
Speaking earlier, Director Arabic and Islamic Education Department Safiyanu Abubakar said the 2- day workshop is aimed was designed to enhance the teaching skills of over 100 participants from 44 local government areas by resource facilitators of Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
According to the Director, the role played by teachers of Qur’an, Islamic Studies, and Arabic Language cannot be over emphasized being the torchbearers of knowledge, character, and values.
Sheik Mahmud Abdulhamid ( Shaikul Ma’ahad Azharity) from Al-Azhar University presented his paper on the challenges of Arabic Language in Kano and the way forward.
Other Facilitators who presented papers during the workshop were Dr. Tariq Abdul’aziz Arafat and Dr. Sha’aban Juma’ah Ahmad all from Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
Speaking, one of the participant from School for Arabic Studies, Kano Haruna Shehu Ahmad Rufa’i thanked Kano State Government for organizing the workshop which he described as very useful and educative.
