The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has commissioned over 300 modern residential units and administrative complex at Kano Bompai Police Barracks.
Egbetokun, while commissioning the projects on Wednesday in Kano, commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s consistent support for the police, which he said had made room to reforms, resources to build and resolve to deliver.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, describing it as a critical pillar in the country’s security architecture.
According to him, the project includes over 300 modern residential units, a 48-office administrative complex, a standard armoury, a transport workshop, power shops, worship centres, paved roads, and integrated support systems.
“Our first objective is to prioritise the welfare of our officers. Let us be reminded, no officer should fight for a nation by day and sleep in indignity by night.
He noted that the infrastructure represents more than just physical development but reflects the values of intentional leadership and respect for human dignity.
“In the complex equation of national security, we often speak of firepower, intelligence, and strategy, but the true foundation is human. The morale, welfare, and living conditions of those who serve are central,” Egbetokun said.
The IGP emphasised that the initiative was not isolated, but part of a broader nationwide reform agenda aimed at transforming the police force into a modern, motivated, and mission-ready institution.
“Today we gather not only to commission structures, but to commission hope, restore dignity and signal a new resolve to stay focus” he said
He appreciated the private sector partners for aligning with the police vision and delivering the project within scope and on time, noting that their contributions added to institutional confidence and national security capital.
“To the officers and families who will reside here, this is not charity. It is recognition of your sacrifice and a symbol of institutional respect,” he said.
He urged the Kano State Police Command to reflect the investment in their professionalism, responsiveness, and relationship with the public.
“Indiscipline, extortion, and abuse of power have no place in this new structure or in the new force we are building,” the IGP said.
He described the project as a strategic step towards a stronger and more stable Nigeria, calling on all stakeholders to remain committed to sustaining the reforms.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Mr Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, said the newly constructed residential quarters and office complex would significantly improve the living and working conditions of officers.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for prioritising the welfare of officers.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, assuring that the new facilities would further strengthen administrative and operational performance.
On his part, the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir-Yusuf, commended the Inspector-General of Police for his steadfast dedication to improving the welfare of officers and men of the command.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd.), said the project is not just a physical structure but a symbol of resilience, service, and shared responsibility.
He reaffirmed that the Kano State Government remains fully committed to supporting the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in their efforts to ensure peace, and safety across the state.
