The Kano State Executive Council has approved the sum of N14.8 billion for the execution of key infrastructural and social development projects across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi-Waiya, made this known on Friday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the 30th Council meeting held on Aug.6, at the Council Chamber, Kwankwasiyya City, Kano.
He said the approvals were granted following extensive deliberations and detailed presentations by the respective ministries, in line with the state government’s commitment to people-oriented development.
He said the Ministry of Works got N11.8 billion for several capital projects, which include the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage to a Female Drugs Reformatory Institute and construction of a Transit Centre in Gaya LGA at N1.38 billion.
Other projects under the Ministry are: the revocation and re-award contract of the Jaba-Gayawa Road N3.74 billion, dualisation of the Dakata-Yadakunya Road N6.14 billion and construction of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa LGA at 522 million.
He said the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning was allocated N882.9 million, out of which N129 million is for the printing of security documents by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting PLC and N753.9 million for the expansion of ongoing works at the Ministry.
“Under the Ministry of Health, the Council approved N1.66 billion for projects such as the renovation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital.
“General rehabilitation of the School of Health Technology Bebeji, solar supply and installations to five maternity facilities, and supply of drugs and consumables to Hasiya Bayero, Murtala Muhammad Specialist and Yadakunya hospitals.
“Renovation and Rehabilitation of newly procured house at Zango Quarters, Murtala Muhammad hospital and construction of additional facility at Zakirai Primary Health Care Centre.
” The Ministry of Water Resources was approved N310 million for the settlement of diesel and PMS supplies, while the Ministry for Rural and Community Development got N169.6 million for the rehabilitation of five mini earth dams across Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi LGAs” he said
He also announced that the Council ratified a supplementary and amendment budget proposal of N889, 277,880,957.81 billion for 2025 reflecting an increase of N169.5 billion over the previously approved N719.755,417,663.00 billion.
“The supplementary appropriation is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the government to deliver it core mandates and emerging obligations” Abdullahi-Waiya said
According to him, the proposal will be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
“The government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, remains focused on rebuilding a better Kano State through strategic approach to governance, targeting key areas that will bring tangible dividends to democracy to the people of Kano” he said.
He called on the public to continue to support government policies and remain vigilant in monitoring the implementation of approved projects.
