A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, David Sabon Kante (DSK), has distanced himself from the widespread rumour making the round that he is brain behind the push and decision for Governor Agbu Kefas, to join the ruling party at the center.
Kante, a former governorship aspirant in 2023 who spoke in a telephone interview with newsmen in Jalingo, said he has no knowledge of Governor Kefas’s intention of joining the APC family.
The APC stalwart, who sworn by oath that, he is not aware of the plan defection by Governor Kefas, denied any link to the decision, as such could be the handiwork of those bent to damage his political programmes.
Kante, however admitted taking part in anti party activities in the 2023 governorship election against the APC, saying that, he regretted his action, and will not allow the repeat of such betrayal in the 2027 election.
“Our people in APC are thinking that, we are aware of it, we are the ones bringing him to our party and they are all attacking us everywhere.
“Meanwhile, the truth is that, we are not aware of his coming. I swear, the governor has not told me that he’s coming to APC. I need to make this clear to my party men should know, the attempt to join the party y the governor is without my knowledge,” the APC Chieftain explained.
He said, being the governor, whether they are consulted or not, their decisions on his political ambition does not count, because he has the right to take his own decision.
“The governor has the right to take his decision, after contacting us as his own brothers, at home especially the brothers that committed anti party activities to support him.
“The blame has been on me, virtually all the APC, haven’t isolated me for two years and turn down all offers the government has been trying to do me, they are further damaging my political programmes, by saying I am the one working out his coming to APC,” he further said.
On whether he will contest for the 2027 governorship election, DSK said, he is still consulting and may decide to heed to the calls of the people, if it becomes necessary.
He expressed optimism that, “the APC stands the chance to produce the next governor of the state without missing words.
“As you are aware, in Taraba State, the APC has a 95 percent chance of winning the next election,” Kante said.
