The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of N6.9 billion for the execution of key projects and programmes aimed at improving welfare and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the 36th State Executive Council meeting held on Dec. 31, 2025.
Waiya said the approvals followed extensive deliberations on critical governance issues affecting various sectors of the state.
According to him, the council approved N859.2 million for the payment of compensation to owners of structures affected by the construction of a five-kilometre dualised road in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, under the supervision of the Ministry of Land.
He said N358.4 million was approved for the construction of storm water drainage and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area to address environmental challenges and flood control, to be executed by the Ministry of Environment.
The commissioner noted that the Ministry of Works received the largest share of approvals due to the strategic importance of road and drainage infrastructure.
He said the council approved N896.1 million for the reconstruction of a failed multi-cell box culvert along the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road in Kiru Local Government Area.
“Approval was also granted for the construction of the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area at the cost of N2.6 billion,” he added.
Waiya further said N1.2 billion was approved for the construction of a 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and other hydraulic structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road, all under the Ministry of Works.
On youth empowerment, he said the council approved N431.6 million for the graduation ceremony and provision of empowerment kits for beneficiaries of selected entrepreneurship institutes across the state, to be implemented by the Steering Committee on the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes.
In the water resources sector, Waiya said N85.6 million was approved for the extension of water pipelines within Greater Kano, particularly in Gwale Local Government Area.
He said the council also approved N285.2 million as the reviewed estimated total cost for the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the 44 local government areas of the state, to be executed by the Ministry of Education.
According to him, N157.7 million was approved for the conduct of an anti-corruption workshop for all state directors (Batch 3), to be coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
On policy matters, Waiya said the council approved the transmission of several bills to the Kano State House of Assembly for passage into law.
These, he listed, include the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, Kano State Education Bill 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025.
He added that the council also approved the implementation of the reviewed Public-Private Partnership Policy and Manual for the state to attract private sector investment.
Waiya said the council witnessed the presentation of awards and recognitions to Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Kano State Government for achievements in digital transformation, leadership, housing, healthcare delivery, community development and support for vulnerable groups.
According to him, the council also received a skill acquisition training package and a donated 32-seater coaster bus from development partners.
He said the approvals reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to inclusive development, transparency and improved service delivery across all sectors of the state.
