The Chairman,  Taraba state Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Joshua Garba Mbave on Friday applauded Taraba state governor,  Agbu Kefas for paying 100% of workers salaries in the University.

Mbave, who spoke to journalists through the commissioner for information and re-orientation,  Barr Zainab Usman in Jalingo said Kefas since assumption of office has demonstrated uncommon commitment  to the welfare of lecturers and non academic staff in the institution.

“Governor Kefes advancement of education in Taraba state is not a political statement,  it is a professional acknowledgment from the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities,Taraba State University chapter.

At a time when public universities across the nation grapple with irregular payments and protracted disputes, Taraba State University witnessed consistency and stability.

Taraba State University has enjoyed salary consistency under this government. Even more telling is the fact that when Governor Kefas assumed office, he said, Education was his  number one priority.

Today, I make bold to say that our salaries have been constant from the time the governor came on board.

The consistency is not accidental, it is the product of disciplined leadership and a deliberate prioritization of education by Taraba State Government” he hinted.

He highlighted that when  Kefas assumed office, the financial situation of the university was daunting, adding that the outstanding salary bill was almost N1.8 billion but cleared N1 billion immediately he assured office.

“Clearing such a substantial portion of inherited liabilities within a short time reflects responsibility and sincerity of purpose.

Beyond salary payments, the administration also moved swiftly to address institutional bottlenecks that had stalled academic progression.

The moment His Excellency constituted a functional Governing Council, the Governor restored due process and enabled promotions” he informed.
