The council chairman, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Hussaini Aliyu-Bena, says no fewer than three neighbouring states are benefiting from consistent support to security agencies by Governor Nasir Idris.
Mr Aliyu-Bena said the governor’s efforts had raised crop cultivation and yield to about 70 to 80 per cent this year in the crisis-prone areas.
He told journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday that the gigantic effort, which was worthy of commendation, positively impacted the people of Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger States.
The council chair said: “The greatest concern of our people is insecurity, but when the new administration under HisExcellency Dr Nasir Idris, came on board, the security situation has tremendously improved, following some measures introduced to curb the menace.
“When he assumed duty, the governor summoned a stakeholders’ meeting, where suggestions on how to tackle the menace were offered.
“In view of his determination to bring an end to the lingering problem, he accepted and implemented all the suggestions offered during the meeting.”
Confirming that the governor’s efforts are beyond the boundaries of Kebbi, the chairman said many neighbouring villagers from Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger States, who fled their homes to take refuge at Mahuta in Fakai Local Government, as well as other villages in Kebbi, have now returned to their homes.
“This has led to an increase in farm cultivation not only in Kebbi but across villages in the three neighbouring states. Following these efforts, crop cultivation and yield have increased to about 70 to 80 per cent in the crisis-prone areas,” he said.
The chairman praised the governor for renovating and establishing more military bases in the state’s southern part.
Mr Aliyu-Bena appreciated the foresight of the governor for providing tractors to farmers in the area, saying a farmer just needed to pay for fuel for his farm to be cultivated.
He added that the governor also distributed fertilisers free to farmers to boost agricultural production.
The chairman commended the governor for taking a bold step towards revoking the Koko-Dabai-Zuru road to enable the state government to take over the construction of the road.
He also lauded the governor for prioritising education through the renovation and construction of classrooms, extending years of service and years of birth for teachers, as well as payment of scholarships to students both within and outside the country.
