The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has secured 23 convictions for various criminal offences between January and July 2025, marking significant progress in its fight against crime in the state.
The Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, said the convictions were secured for offences including stealing, assault, burglary, felony, and escape from lawful custody.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Uyo by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.
John said the convictions, which ranged from two weeks to three years imprisonment, were a result of the Command’s intensified efforts in crime prevention, professional investigation, and diligent prosecution.
“All arrests, investigations, and prosecutions were carried out in line with constitutional provisions and best practices in law enforcement,” she said.
According to the statement, residents of major towns such as Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket have reported a noticeable decline in burglary, theft, and violent crimes.
The Commissioner of Police attributed the successes to key reforms initiated since he assumed office in late 2024.
These include enhanced community policing, rapid response mechanisms, retraining of officers, and direct supervision of field operations.
Azare commended officers and men of the Command for their dedication, adding that outstanding performances would be recognised and rewarded accordingly.
He also acknowledged the cooperation of the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice in ensuring the smooth dispensation of justice.
“The Command remains committed to sustaining the progress recorded through intelligence-driven policing, increased patrols, and continuous public sensitisation,” the statement added.
