Attack on Gwazaye Outpost: NSCDC Clears Air on Incident 

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kano State Command, says the circumstance surrounding the attack on their office in Gwazaye, Kumbotso local government area Kano was based on the issue of phone snatching.

This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, on Tuesday in Kano.

The statement said on June 2, at about 8: 00 pm, two hoodlums armed with knives attempted to snatch a mobile phone from a resident of Gwazaye, Kumbotso local government areawhile he was on a call.

“In the process one of the hoodlums reportedly engaged the victim in a struggle, during which he was overpowered and fatally stabbed in the neck.

“The victim resident and three of his neighbors shortly after rushed to the Civil Defence Outpost at Semegu Kumbotso local government to report the incident”

He noted that the criminal elements armed with dangerous weapons regrouped and attacked the Civil Defence office, mistaking the victim and his neighbors for NSCDC personnel.

He clarified that none of its personnel was involved in the incident, and the attack was unprovoked.

The statement noted that NSCDC never maimed or kill any suspected thug in the area.

The NSCDC assured the public that the matter has been handed over to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kano for discreet investigation and further necessary action.

The Command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property, while calling for calm and cooperation from residents as security agencies handle the case.
