The Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala A. Mohammed (CON), has awarded contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of slaughterhouses across the state to improve public health and livestock development.
The State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi, disclosed this during the handing over of project sites to contractors, according to a statement issued by the CICT Officer, Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdul, on Tuesday.
Represented by the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Musa Adamu One, the commissioner stressed the need for contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications, quality standards and timelines.
While handing over sites for the construction of new slaughterhouses in Giade and Shira Local Government Areas, Adamu One urged the contractors to deliver people-oriented projects and ensure completion within the agreed timeframe.
He said the projects would help curb zoonotic diseases and promote a healthier society.
In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of Giade LGA, Alh. Usman Saleh Mohammed (Wazirin Isawa), and his Shira counterpart, Hon. Babangida Maliya, commended the governor, the National Project Coordinator, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, and the World Bank for extending the project to rural communities.
Represented by their Directors of Agriculture, Alh. Aliyu Maigari and Alh. Musa Yahaya, the chairmen said the projects would reduce the spread of communicable diseases and enhance public health.
The contractor handling the construction of slaughterhouses in Giade and Shira, Anthill and Bird Nest Engineering, through its representative, Alh. Umar Attah, assured the government of quality work and timely completion.
Traditional leaders, including the Sarkin Fawan of Giade and Shira, pledged to support and safeguard the facilities after completion.
Similarly, contracts for the rehabilitation of Katagum and Warji slaughterhouses were awarded to JK J5 Engineering Company.
Adamu One urged the firm to maintain quality and meet project deadlines.
Responding, the Managing Director of JK J5 Engineering, Dr. Sambo, assured stakeholders of the company’s commitment to delivering the projects as scheduled, while seeking community support.
In separate goodwill messages, the chairmen of Darazo, Katagum and Warji LGAs, represented by their Directors of Agriculture, commended the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project for executing the initiative.
Highlights of the event included the handing over of site plans to contractors and goodwill messages from stakeholders.
