The Bayero University Kano(BUK) has concluded arrangements to graduate 8,769 students across 18 faculties during its 39th convocation.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sagir Adamu-Abbas, said this at a pre-convocation news conference on Monday in Kano.
He said the four-day event will commence on Wednesday, February 12, with 4,402 graduates receiving their degrees, diplomas, and certificates from 11 faculties.
On Thursday, February 13, another 4,402 graduates from seven faculties will participate in the convocation.
Highlighting key details, Professor Abbas announced that 176 students will graduate with first-class degrees, while 275 will receive Ph.D.s, and 2,590 will earn master’s degrees, among others.
The convocation lecture, scheduled for Friday, February 14, will be delivered by the Vice Chairman of NACENI, Mr. Khalid Halilu.
His lecture, titled “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to National Development,” was chosen for its relevance to the global economy and Kano’s status as a major business hub in Nigeria.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the fourth day of the event will feature the conferment of honorary degrees on retired Colonel Sani Bello and philanthropist Alhaji Auwalu Rano, also known as AA Rano.
Additionally, the convocation will recognize three distinguished retired professors—Garba Azare, Julius Galola, and Musa Borodo—with the title of Emeritus Professor.
The VC also confirmed that Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, and Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, are expected to attend the convocation, with the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, serving as the event’s chairman.
