
Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, have kicked off the 1st Kanawa Tertiary Institution Basketball Championship on a strong note.
The tournament, organized in collaboration with DAM Foundation, is taking place at BUK’s basketball court and has attracted a large turnout of spectators.
In the opening match, Bayero University Kano defeated Baba Ahmed University 55-15, while Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology thrashed Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) 55-04.
In their second match, Aliko Dangote secured a walkover victory against Elrazi Medical University Kano with a 20-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, the match between Federal University of Education Kano and Skyline University has been rescheduled to today, Tuesday, at the same venue.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, BUK’s Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Muhammad, a former football international player, urged participants to exhibit sportsmanship and discipline to achieve the tournament’s objectives.
While commending the competition’s sponsors, DAM Foundation for supporting the students through competition, he urged other wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate.
In his remarks, the representative of DAM Foundation, Dr. Abdulrahman Shuaibu, applauded the participants for their maximum support and cooperation, appealing to them to sustain the tempo for a hitch free tournament.
Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion include the chairman Technical Committee of the Nigerian University Games Association(NUGA) and Chairman Sports committee of BUK, Professor Musa Garba Yakasai, and the Deputy Director of Sports, Dr. Madaki, among others.
