The Kano State Government has donated 15 cows and food items to inmates across all correctional centres in the state, to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
The donation was made through the Chairperson of the Kano State Committee for the Prerogative of Mercy, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeji, on Tuesday in Kano.
The food items included 15 cows, 115 bags of 50kg rice, 40 jerry cans of 25kg vegetable oil, and assorted soup ingredients among others.
Namadi-Bebeji said the gesture reflected the commitment of Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf’s administration to the welfare, dignity and rehabilitation of inmates.
She urged them to continue praying for peace, unity and sustained progress in the state.
Namadi-Bebeji said the government remains committed to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting humane policies aimed at restoring hope and dignity to inmates undergoing rehabilitation.
She added that the present administration placed premium importance on social welfare, compassion and correctional support initiatives to foster reformation and reintegration of inmates into society.
Receiving the items, the Controller of Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS),Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, commended the state government for its continued support for inmates.
He said the donation would boost the morale of inmates and enable them to celebrate the Sallah season with joy and a sense of belonging.
“On behalf of the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi-Nwakuche, we sincerely appreciate the Kano State Government for its unwavering support to inmates in Kano State,” he said.
Yusuf-Lakpene reaffirmed the commitment of the command to the welfare, reformation and rehabilitation of inmates in line with global best practices.
