Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has called on the residents to embrace peace and promote good governance for the development of the state.
Yusuf made the call on Sunday, while receiving the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, who paid him a traditional Sallah homage at the Government House, Kano.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam, commended the Emir for the visit and urged the public to continue to preach peace, pray for unity, and shun immoral acts.
He said the teachings of Eid-el-Kabir should inspire residents to extend kindness to the less privileged in society.
He emphasised that peace and good governance are essential for sustainable development and urged the residents to remain law-abiding and contribute to societal harmony.
Yusuf also called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward improving security in the north to enable farmers to return to their farms as the rainy season returns.
“We call on the Federal Government to bring an end to kidnapping, banditry, poverty and other vices in the country,” he said.
He further prayed for the repose of the souls of the athletes, who died while returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival, held in Abeokuta, Ogun.
He condoled with their families and prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased.
The governor also condoled with the families of the late Prof. Jubril Aminu and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Lawal Uwais.
Earlier, the emir, who led other traditional title holders on the visit, urged the residents to continue to uphold peace and lawful conduct in the state.
He also called on the public to emulate the spirit of the sacrifice symbolised by Eid-el-Kabir by supporting the needy.
He commended the State Government’s efforts in promoting peace and development, urging all the stakeholders to collaborate with the government in fostering unity and good governance.
He admonished Kano people to support one another and work in unison for the overall development of the state.
