The Hassy’s Haven Foundation has commemorated World Cancer Day 2025 with a renewed commitment to supporting indigent female cancer patients.
In a statement by Hussaina Mohammed-Yakubu, founder of Hassy’s Haven Foundation, it was explained that “as the world marked World Cancer Day on February 4, 2025.
Hassy’s Haven Foundation reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness, providing support, and advocating for better policies to improve the lives of indigent female cancer patients in Nigeria.”
“This year’s theme, ‘United by Unique’, emphasizes placing individuals at the center of cancer care, highlighting that behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story.”
“It underscores the importance of a people-centered approach, integrating each person’s distinct needs with compassion and empathy to achieve the best health outcomes.”
The Foundation added that the ‘United by Unique’ campaign encourages the global community to recognize and honor the personal experiences of those affected by cancer.
“By focusing on individual stories, the campaign aims to foster a deeper connection between healthcare providers, patients, and communities, advocating for health systems that prioritize people. This aligns with our mission to support cancer patients, particularly underprivileged women battling the disease.
“Cancer remains a major public health challenge, and many women face financial, emotional, and psychological barriers that hinder access to early detection, treatment, and post-recovery support.
“To commemorate this year’s World Cancer Day, Hassy’s Haven Foundation will continue with its Cancer Awareness and Support Program in Kaduna.”
The Foundation called for continuous awareness to educate women on early detection, prevention, and available treatment options.
The Foundation will advocate for policy change and called on government agencies and stakeholders to strengthen cancer care services and ensure affordable treatment for all.
“Hassy’s Haven Foundation was established in memory of Hassana Yakubu, a dedicated journalist who bravely battled cancer for eight years. Her resilience continues to inspire our work in championing the rights of women affected by cancer.”
“We invite government agencies, health organizations, corporate bodies, and the general public to join us in this crucial fight against cancer. Together, we can ensure that no woman faces cancer alone,” the statement added.
