The African Democratic Congress (ADC) aspirants in Kano State have raised concerns over alleged irregularities surrounding the party’s purported state, National Assembly and State Assembly primary elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Kano on Tuesday, Hon. Wada Masu, who spoke on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants described the exercise allegedly conducted on May 21, 2026 as lacking legitimacy and transparency.
Masu said the claim that primary elections were held on May 21 was questionable because all aspirants were participating in a screening exercise on the same day.
He said the development raised serious concerns about the credibility of the exercise said to have produced candidates for various elective positions.
According to him, the party’s Elections Committee subsequently invited all aspirants to a consensus meeting on May 22, with a clear indication that primary elections would be conducted if consensus failed.
“The invitation for a consensus meeting on May 22 directly contradicts claims that valid primary elections had already been conducted on May 21,” he said.
Masu described the situation as a threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice and the credibility of the party.
He called on the national leadership of the ADC to urgently intervene by investigating the matter and ensuring that due process was followed.
He urged the party leadership to provide a fair, lawful and lasting resolution to prevent possible crises and the disenfranchisement of members.
“Our struggle is not against any individual, but for justice, transparency and the protection of democratic principles within our party,” he said.
Masu said the aggrieved aspirants remained law-abiding and committed members of the party and expressed confidence that fairness and due process would prevail.
