The Kano State Police Command has announced a lineup of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, with a focus on strengthening community partnership and building public trust.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano, on Friday saying the command was set to embark on community engagement programmes across the state.
He said the celebration, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” underscored the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in maintaining peace and security.
He said the activities were in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan-Disu, adding that the programme would commence on March 30 with a sanitation exercise, community engagement and medical outreach in parts of the state.
According to him, the opening day will feature a cleaning exercise in Fagge Local Government Area, alongside community engagement and medical outreach in the Dakata area.
He added that on March 31, there would be a walk-a-thon along Abdullahi Wase Road, covering Mandawari, Dandago, Gidan Kankara, Mazaunar Tanko Sani Mainagge to Tal’udu Flyover.
The police commissioner said the day’s events would also include a one-hour live radio programme at Dala FM and a visit to the state’s Federal High Court.
Adamu-Bakori further said that on April 1, the command would hold an interactive session with students and staff of Northwest University Kano, as well as organise a football match at Sani Abacha Stadium.
He said activities for April 2 would include a roundtable meeting with civil society and community-based organisations, as well as visits to motor parks and markets across the state.
The commissioner noted that the programme would involve stakeholders such as the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), civil society organisations and members of the public.
He added that similar activities would be replicated across all police divisions and area commands in the state.
Adamu-Bakori said the grand finale of the celebration would hold on April 7 at Eagle Square in Abuja, where the Inspector-General of Police would lead dignitaries and stakeholders to commemorate the National Police Day.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with residents, stressing that the police and the community must work together to address security challenges and improve the quality of life.
The commissioner expressed appreciation to the people of Kano State for their continued support and cooperation, urging community leaders and residents to actively participate in the activities.
“Together, we can build a safer and more secure society,” he said.
