The Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group has called for a collaborative effort to mitigate the impact of flood disasters in Mokwa Town, Niger State.
The group made this appeal following the recent devastating flood that claimed lives, destroyed property worth billions of naira, and left many homeless.
The group commended the Federal Government and Niger State Government for their prompt response and strategic support.
Specifically, they appreciated President Ahmed Tinubu for approving a N2 billion resettlement fund and 20 trucks of grains for flood victims, as well as Governor Umar Muhammad Bago for his pivotal role in the rescue process and provision of emergency relief materials.
Some notable achievements include, N2 billion Resettlement Fund*: Approved by President Ahmed Tinubu for flood victims.
N1 billion Evacuation Fund: Approved by Governor Umar Bago for immediate evacuation of victims from IDP camps to rented apartments.
N7 billion Reconstruction Fund*: Approved by Governor Bago for rebuilding bridges and the Mokwa-Rabba Road.
The Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group urged the Federal and Niger State Governments to expedite action on their promises and advocated for a multi-faceted approach to address flood disasters in Mokwa Town.
They expressed readiness to collaborate with the governments to actualize the plan of resettling flood victims and providing necessary infrastructure.
The group also requested representation on the State Government’s resettlement committee.
