Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched the second phase of the women empowerment initiative under the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP).
The program, valued at N2.3 billion, focuses on reducing poverty and encouraging economic independence among women across the state.
According to Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, the initiative involves distributing livestock to women in all 44 Local Government Areas. Each beneficiary received three goats to begin livestock farming.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf stated, “This initiative demonstrates our resolve to empower vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth, and to drive economic growth from the grassroots.”
Under this phase, 7,158 goats have been distributed to 2,386 women. The Governor also announced plans to distribute 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth in subsequent phases.
He highlighted the program’s role in integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain, aiming to improve household income and reduce dependency.
Governor Yusuf warned against the misuse of the livestock, emphasizing, “The beneficiaries must ensure accountability and use these resources for their intended purpose to uplift their economic status.”
The program aims to improve livelihoods, enhance food security, and create wealth in Kano’s rural communities.
