The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), North East chapter, has warned against sabotaging the activities and mandates of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE).
The association also passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, for his efforts and initiatives to transform almajiris and return out of school children to schools.
In a press release issued to our correspondent on Wednesday, the zonal coordinator of the association, Mu’azu Hina, said the commission plays a vital role in addressing the educational needs of millions of Almajiri and out-of-school children across the country.
According to him, all well meaning Nigerians should support the commission not to sabotage it to enable it address the menace of out of school children in the nation.
“Any attempt to sabotage the commission is not only a disservice to the nation but also a direct attack on the future of vulnerable children.
“We therefore call on all stakeholders, including government agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations and members of the public to support the Commission in achieving its mandate.
“Constructive criticism is welcome, but deliberate acts aimed at frustrating its operations should be condemned”, he said.
Hina said NANS Zone E remains committed to advocating for policies that expand access to quality education, reduce the number of out-of-school children and promote inclusive national development.
“We urge all Nigerians to unite in protecting institutions established to improve the lives of our children and strengthen the nation’s educational system”, he stated.
