
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has congratulated Comrade Hauwa Zahradden on her confirmation as the first female Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, in a statement on Tuesday in Kano, described the development as a significant milestone and honour to women journalists in the state.
Zahradden, who previously served as Assistant Secretary of NUJ Kano, was confirmed as Secretary, becoming the first woman to occupy the position in the council.
Kabara commended the leadership of the NUJ Kano State Council, under the chairmanship of Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, as well as the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for supporting women’s participation in leadership within the journalism profession.
She said Zahradden’s confirmation was a source of pride to women journalists, adding that it represented a positive step towards greater inclusion and participation of women in the leadership of the profession.
According to her, the development will further strengthen the confidence of female journalists and make them feel more represented, valued and welcomed within the NUJ family.
Kabara expressed confidence that Zahradden would bring her experience, professionalism and dedication to the new responsibility and contribute meaningfully to the growth and unity of the journalism profession in Kano.
She wished the new NUJ secretary a successful tenure and expressed NAWOJ’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the union in advancing the welfare, professional development and leadership opportunities of journalists, particularly women.
