Residents of Tunga community in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State have appealed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to urgently intervene in the deplorable condition of the major access road linking the area from Gidan Gajiyayyu to the Bye-Pass.
The residents said the bad condition of the road had become a major source of hardship, particularly during the rainy season when the road becomes muddy and difficult to navigate.
According to them, every rainfall brings fresh challenges as motorists, tricycle operators and pedestrians struggle to move through the area. Some residents said vehicles often get stuck in the mud, while pedestrians are forced to wade through muddy portions of the road.
A resident, Ismail Garba told our correspondent that the situation had persisted for a long time, stressing that the community was becoming increasingly isolated whenever there was heavy rainfall.
“Whenever it rains heavily, movement becomes very difficult. Some vehicles cannot pass, while commercial tricycles sometimes refuse to come into the area because of the condition of the road,” the resident said.
Another resident, Mustapha Anas appealed to the state government to treat the road as an emergency, noting that the poor access had affected residents going to work, schools, markets and health facilities.
“We are appealing to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to remember the people of Tunga. We need a motorable road and proper drainage. We have suffered enough, especially during the rainy season,” the resident said.
The residents also called on the Gwale Local Government Council and other relevant authorities to complement the state government’s efforts by urgently assessing the road and taking steps towards its reconstruction.
They expressed optimism that fixing the road would not only ease transportation but also improve commercial activities and the general living conditions of residents.
The residents urged the governor to visit the area and see the situation for himself, saying immediate government intervention would save them from the hardship they face every time it rains.
