The just concluded Gombe State Inter-secondary Schools Athletics Championships is yielding fruits as young talents have started dreaming big even to complete and win at the Olympic level.
One of such young athletes is the most outstanding performing Student in the competition, Abdullahi A. Abubakar who received cash rewards for being the Most decorated athlete with six medals and the fastest in the competition in 100m boys final.
He said one day, his dream is to become an Olympic medalist.
“I want to become an Olympic medalist, I have the qualities, but need Competition to improve myself, I thank Uncle Gara Gombe for given me and others a chance to try. I know by the time I finished secondary school, my performance will be high” Abubakar said.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Government Science Technical College where Abubakar is attending, Mr. Salisu Abbas showered gifts to outstanding performing students to promote sports among young athletes in the School.
The Principal also recognized the school Games Masters, expressed gratitude to the Organisers of the first Gombe Inter-secondary Schools Athletics Championships for putting up a good competition to discover Young talents.
Mr. Salisu praised Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe for his efforts and appealed for the competition to be organized annually, considering the high number of talented students hidden in secondary schools across Gombe.
In another impressive development, the principal of Government Day secondary school Mr. Ahmadu Gombe has awarded 2nd term and 3rd term scholarship to students who won medals for the school.
Thanks to the GWG sports centre and Gombe Athletics academy for bringing out the talents in our students.
