Tinubu celebrates Kano Gov. Yusuf at 63, praises grassroots development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on his 63rd birthday, marked on Jan. 5.

The President, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, described Yusuf as a leader of integrity, modesty and humility, with a strong commitment to public service.

Tinubu said the governor’s qualities had been evident in his administration of Kano State since assuming office in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The President recalled that Yusuf previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport in Kano State between 2011 and 2015 during the administration of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

He noted that the Yusuf-led administration in Kano, described as a bastion of progressive politics in the North, reflected a renewed commitment to grassroots development and the upliftment of the talakawa, in line with the ideals of the late Mallam Aminu Kano.

According to Tinubu, the governor’s experience in managing key portfolios may have prepared him for the infrastructural transformation currently being witnessed in the state.

“Governor Yusuf’s leadership experience, particularly his years as commissioner managing strategic portfolios in Kano State, may have prepared him for the kind of infrastructural changes now witnessed in the state.

“He has embarked on urban renewal programmes, building bridges and road networks, including the construction of five-kilometre roads in each local government area of the state.

“I also understand that his declaration of a state of emergency in education has engendered a marked improvement in the performance of Kano students in NECO examinations,” the President said.

Tinubu wished the governor a long life and many more years of impactful and transformative leadership in Kano State.
