Yobe State government has sealed a 20-year concession agreement with Truck Transit Parks Limited to take over the running of the Potiskum trailer park.
The deal was signed on Friday and is being positioned by the state as a flagship Public-Private Partnership aimed at upgrading critical transport infrastructure.
Director-General of the Yobe State Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion, YAPPPIP, Dr. Aliyu Chikaji, said the agreement reflects the Governor Mai Mala Buni administration’s push to leverage private capital for public assets.
According to him, the move would transform logistics and curb road safety hazards in the commercial hub where trailers are parked indiscriminately on the road.
“The Potiskum trailer park is strategic to Northern Nigeria’s trade corridor. A modern facility here will ease the movement of goods, reduce indiscriminate parking of heavy trucks, improve road safety and drive commerce within Potiskum and across the region,” he said.
Chikaji added that the partnership was expected to attract significant private investment, professionalise park operations and create direct and indirect employment for residents.
Yobe State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Mineral Resources, Kaigama Umar, applauded Governor Mai Mala Buni for the initiative.
He urged TTP Ltd to strictly follow the terms of the concession to avoid future disputes.
In his remarks, Obinna Nwaogu, Chief Operating Officer of Truck Transit Parks Limited, described the Potiskum site as one of the most promising in the country.
“Our plan is to maximise value by introducing technology and world-class services. This will ensure the government’s objectives are met while making the facility commercially viable and sustainable,” Nwaogu stated.
He commended the state government and YAPPPIP for the collaboration and said the concession opens the door for “larger projects and deeper cooperation” going forward.
Officials from the State Ministry of Justice, YAPPPIP, Yobe Investment Company Limited, and TTP Ltd witnessed the signing.
