The Kano State Government has shut down two private health training institutions operating illegally in Nasarawa Local Government Area over violations of regulatory requirements and operational standards.
The affected institutions are IBN SINA College of Health Science and Technology, located at Dakata Kawaji, adjacent to Juma’at Mosque, and Life Line College of Health Science and Technology, situated at Dakata Industrial Area, Bela Road, Tsamiyar Gare, along Mai Sikeli Street.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano by the Public Relations Officer of the State Ministry of Health, Malam Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa.
According to the statement, the closure followed a comprehensive assessment by the ministry, which revealed that the institutions failed to meet the minimum requirements and standards prescribed for the establishment and operation of health training institutions in the state.
The ministry said the institutions were operating without proper verification and approval from the Kano State Ministry of Health and lacked accreditation from relevant professional and regulatory bodies responsible for health education and training in the country.
It added that investigations uncovered major deficiencies, including inadequate qualified teaching personnel, poor learning facilities, insufficient infrastructure and non-compliance with educational and operational standards required for effective health manpower development.
The ministry also observed poor adherence to professional ethics, regulatory guidelines and other mandatory requirements aimed at safeguarding the quality of healthcare education and ensuring the competence of future healthcare professionals.
Speaking on the development, the ministry’s spokesman reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting students, parents and the public from institutions that compromise educational quality and professional standards.
He stressed that the training of healthcare workers must be conducted only in institutions that meet approved standards and regulatory requirements.
The government, therefore, warned proprietors of health training institutions across the state to strictly comply with all legal and regulatory provisions guiding their operations.
It stated that the closure of non-compliant institutions remained necessary to ensure quality healthcare education, protect the interests of students and maintain excellence in healthcare service delivery across Kano State.
