Workers in Taraba state on Sunday said that the Taraba state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Peter Jediel is their 2025 democracy man of the year.
Some workers who spoke while briefing journalists in Jalingo said Comrade Peter Jediel remained their hero.
A staff in the Ministry Urban planning, Mr Bright Ayan hinted that Comrade peter’s effort to press the government to do the needful led to the reality of the new minimum wage workers are rightly enjoying.
“His our Democracy Man of year, we will celebrate him now and always because he has demonstrated and documented his name in the guinness book of Taraba.
Despite pressure from government, he insisted that civil servants in the state enjoyed and must be paid the minimum wage” he said.
Also, junior staff with Taraba Tractor hiring Unit, Mrs Rejina Amsson said before the implementation of the new minimum wage, her salary was within 25, 000 to 30, 000 naira monthly.
She noted that immediately the NLC fault and the minimum wage came into reality, her salary shooted to 97, 000 monthly.
“I choosed to make my amiable and uncorruptable NLC Chairman, Comrade Peter Jediel my Democracy Man of year because his efforts to ensure that government attend to workers change my leaving standard” she added.
On his part, the NLC Chairman, Comrade Peter Jediel while reacting to the applauds from Taraba workers said he will continue to show his commitment in ensuring that workers welfare remained his topmost priority.
Jediel who spoke through the secretary of union in the state, Comrade Wadumayi Buba Adamu urged workers to remain committed and law abiding in their respective places of work.
He assured that the NLC will continue to struggle for the welfare of workers and masses in Taraba state.
