An An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Taraba state, Chief David Sabon Kente on Wednesday said that his decision to step down from the Taraba governorship primary race was for interest of peace and unity of Apc in the state.
Kente who stated this in Jalingo while briefing journalists emphasised that no one settled him to quit from the race.
He hinted that his decision was strictly in the interest of political stability, peace, and unity of the party and the entire Taraba State.
“This is not for any personal gain. Quite to the contrary, I have already invested hugely in this project, but I must put the people first, thus my decision to step aside from the race.
My brother, the governor of Taraba state few days ago visited me in my house and pleaded with me that I should please allow him to complete his remaining four years.
But I told him during the his visit that I needed to consult with my followers and my political supporters who sacrificed their resources to purchase the Expression of interest and Nomination forms for me” he said.
Atfter our decision with my team and various stakeholders across the state and beyond I personally stepped down” he said.
He noted that his decision to join the APC gubernatorial race was anchored on the pressure from the people of Taraba state who felt the present administration has not lived up to its expectations and they needed someone to step in.
“After much reluctance, I was persuaded to join the race with an unflinching determination to make a difference. Our tested popularity and acceptability put us in a position of strength over all other opponents.
You are all living witnesses that the crowd that received our arrival in Wukari and Jalingo was a clear indication that the people want a change” he added.
He maintained that why he was still consulting, he came under immense pressure lately from leaders across religious, political, and ethnic divides both within and outside the State who clamour for political stability of Taraba state and the party.
“I have also observed with dismay the ongoing primaries of our dear party in the state and have come to the conclusion that nothing good can possibly come out of it” he expressed worried
