The Non-Teaching Staff Union of Polytechnics (NOT-SUP) Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo, Gombe State, has elected a new 10-member executive committee to steer the affairs of the union for the next one year.
The election according to a press release issued on Wednesday by Muazu Mohammed Hina, Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, was concluded on Wednesday during the chapter’s congress held at the polytechnic.
It explains that Comrade Dauri Sheegay emerged as Chairman, with Murtala Dan’Azumi as Vice Chairman and Muhammed Kabiru Muhammed as Secretary General.
Other elected officials are: Vincent Amnon Matayo, Assistant Secretary General; Abdulhakeem Yahaya, Treasurer; Hopson Haruna Mbi, Financial Secretary; Imrana Abdullahi Maigari, Publicity Secretary; Dogori S. Hayinah, Welfare Officer I; Adejoh Mercy Ikponya, Welfare Officer II; and Martins Maakun, Auditor.
The statement quoted the new Chairman, Comrade Sheegay, in his acceptance speech as thanking members for the confidence reposed in the new leadership.
He pledged that the executive would protect the interests of members while sustaining a cordial relationship with the polytechnic management for the growth of the institution.
The congress unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo, Dr. Ibrahim Babale Gashua, citing his “visionary leadership and remarkable achievements” in repositioning the institution toward international standards.
Members commended Dr. Gashua and his management team for their commitment to staff welfare, infrastructural development, academic excellence, industrial harmony and the overall progress of the polytechnic.
The congress urged all NOT-SUP members to remain law-abiding, disciplined, punctual and committed to their duties in order to sustain the polytechnic’s reputation.
It also appealed to the Federal Government to strengthen security around tertiary institutions nationwide, stressing that the safety of students, staff and facilities must remain a national priority.
Furthermore, the union called on government to improve workers’ welfare through better working conditions, timely payment of salaries and allowances, adequate funding of educational institutions and sustained investment in human capital development.
The congress reaffirmed NOT-SUP’s commitment to promoting industrial harmony and constructive engagement with the management of Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo.
