The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission(PCACC )says it has seized over one thousand plots of land in some parts of the state from individuals suspected to be land grabbers.
The Commission’s Chairman, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji-Rimingado, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Friday in Kano.
He said the land-grabbing syndicate used some lawyers in the state to perpetuate their criminal activities.
According to him, the Commission based on the executive order signed by Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, can recover land-grabbing syndicates and is pursuing them.
While narrating how the syndicates operate, Magaji said, “If they want to grab your land, they will connive with these lawyers and they now file an application or coin a name of a defendant that is even not in existence and they would go and obtain consent judgment.”
Magaji-Rimingado explained that the state government is not a party to such suits as all the lands they are trying to grab emanate from the Kano state Government.
He commended the efforts of officials of the Department of State Service who rejected a bribe offer of 2.8 million Naira from one of the suspects during the arrest.
He expressed the commitment of the Anti-Graft Commission in complementing the efforts of the Kano State Government in bringing sanity into the state.
“What we are doing now will put an end to these ungodly activities.”
Magaji-Rimingado noted that already, two people have already been arrested and currently assisting investigation.
